AXONOMETRIC MARIO WORLD

A short project to explore axonometric projection drawing method while revealing hidden spaces using 2D images from Mario World

My Role:
Visual Designer

Tools & Softwares:
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Overview

This project explores the axonometric projection drawing method, showcasing how all three dimensions can be represented within a single view. The process involved tracing and applying colour effects in Adobe Illustrator to enhance depth and visual clarity.

Element Selection and Isometric Projection

I chose to focus on 6 elements from the 2 given Mario World images: pipes, lands, thick trees, thin trees, music boxes and stars.

I projected each one of the elements by using the isometric drawing technique.

this was completed by sketching each element at a 45 degree angle, and by giving different depth properties to each one of the elements.

I used repeated elements to construct a drawing that creates the new hidden spaces of the two Mario World illustrations and to form new three dimensional world.

The drawing was later scanned and each element was traced individually in Adobe Illustrator.

I then applied textures and gradients to each element in order to create shadows, illustrating depth and light.
